From Madhya Pradesh to Canada
Rakesh Kumar came to Canada from MP, India in 1989 with a passion for food and culinary arts. He was offered a head chef position at a popular local Indian restaurant in Scarborough.
Over a Decade as Head Chef
Rakesh worked there for over ten years, before deciding he wanted to put his culinary skills to the test.
Tanjore Catering & Sweets, 2004
In 2004, Rakesh and his wife Neeru opened their very own little takeout restaurant, Tanjore Catering & Sweets. It quickly became a local favourite.
A Dining Room of Our Own, 2017
Wanting to provide an authentic dine-in experience, in 2017 they took the leap and expanded into a larger location. Customers came from different cities to try the dishes. Some popular must-tries are the Palace Naan, the biryanis and, of course, the butter chicken. Today, Tanjore is an admired family restaurant in Belleville, Ontario. Moving from Scarborough didn't stop loyal customers from travelling to visit.
